Street Cleansing

Cleaning Machine

 

The Council has responsibility for cleaning 'adopted' public roads and footpaths as well Council owned properties and lands. The Street Cleansing Service is now largely mechanised, so ensuring an efficient operation.  Adopting the standards laid down in The Litter (Northern Ireland) Order 1994, the following services are provided: -

 

· A daily cleanse of zone 1 areas adjacent to the main shopping areas.

· An approximately fortnightly cleanse of all residential streets.

· A monthly sweep of all major arterial roads throughout the Borough.

· A twice weekly empty of litter bins, which are provided throughout the Borough.

· A weekly litter pick of the outer ring road and other dual carriageways.

· Litter scavenge of all rural roads at least three times per annum and annual sweep of same.

· Litter-pick of all open spaces owned by the Council.

· Cleaning of street nameplates.

· Weekly targeted specialist dog fouling clean-ups.
