Parks and Playing Fields

PARKS, PLAYING FIELDS

The Council maintains a range of parks and informal open spaces in the Borough which provide a pleasant environment for relaxation and walking.  These range from small local areas to large well-structured facilities.

For the more sports minded, playing fields are provided at Henry Jones Memorial, Cairnshill, Hydebank, Moat Park, Comber Road, Loughmoss Centre and the new Billy Neill MBE Soccer Centre of Excellence.  Those at Henry Jones Memorial include all-weather surfaces with floodlighting for winter training.

Throughout the Borough, areas are enhanced by the provision of colourful summer and autumn bedding schemes and associated hanging baskets.  The environment is considerably improved by the continuous planting of shrubs and trees.  The Council is particularly supportive of the ‘Forest of Belfast’ initiative and, in conjunction with this, has planted many hundreds of new trees throughout the Borough.
