Mayors Iris Robinson and Jim White sign the Sister Cities Agreement

Castlereagh and the City of Kent, Washington State signed up as sister cities partners on 1 August 2000. The signing of the agreement, which took place in Castlereagh Borough Council's new Civic and Administrative offices at Galwally, marked the end of an extensive four-year exploration programme between the two communities.

With a similar population, suburban location and infrastructure, Kent and Castlereagh developed their relationship through Sister Cities International (SCI) and have signed up to a unique sister cities work plan. The plan sets out initiatives, which promote far-reaching programmes of mutual benefits to both communities.
