Our aim within this Service is to protect and promote the health, safety and well-being of all who live, work in or visit the Borough. The Council has assigned a high priority to these responsibilities and has developed a wide range of services aimed at promoting a safe and healthy environment.

The Council is committed to delivering these services in a manner which is effective, efficient and economical and overall, has regard to the Best Value process. We are also committed to providing as much information as possible about the Service to the general public.

PROFILE OF THE SERVICE

The role of the Environmental Health Service is to enforce Environmental Health legislation, given to the District Council by Central Government and to report the results of that activity to Council for decision.  The Service also plays a non-statutory role in areas of health education and the provision of advice, and information to Council, Government bodies, businesses, architects, consultants and the public throughout the Borough.  The overall objective of the Environmental Health Service is to provide an efficient and cost effective Service in a fair and reasonable manner and overall having regard to the principles of Best Value.

All of the activities carried out by the Environmental Health Service are split into 6 Core Functions namely:

Environmental Health is one of the four Service Units within an amalgamated Technical Services Department.  As such, it has links with other Department’s within the Council along with other statutory Government bodies.

The Environmental Health Manager is Heather M Moore. The Environmental Health Manager is supported by four full time and one part time Environmental Health Officers, a technical assistant, three officers dealing with licensing and dog control, and four full time administrative staff.
