As a result of public voting, Laganscape has reached the finals of the UK National Lottery Awards. The public voted in their thousands and secured a place in the finals for Lagan Valley Regional Park’s project – Laganscape, which is the only environmental project from Northern Ireland to make it to the final.

This annual awards scheme is in recognition of UK projects that have made best use of original Lottery funding by making a difference to the lives of local people and communities. Laganscape aims to facilitate involvement of people and community groups who care passionately about their local area.

“Reaching the finals of the National Lottery Awards is a great boost to Laganscape and all those involved”, said Laganscape Project Manager, Brendan O’Connor. “It is a very fitting recognition to our partner organisations, hard working volunteers and school groups who have worked tirelessly to deliver a range of projects. We are all very excited about reaching the finals and hope the public will continue to support us by voting again”.

The park will be in competition with other 2 other national environmental projects which can be seen at the lottery’s website http://www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.

People can vote for the park by either telephoning the following special lottery number – 08446866390, or by visiting the lottery’s website. The range of projects we are undertaking is detailed on our website at - http://www.laganvalley.co.uk. Votes must be recorded between 9am 26th July and noon 13th August 2010. Winners will be announced on live BBC1 on the 4th September 2010.
