Castlereagh Borough Council launched the Scores on the Doors food hygiene scheme on this website on 30 November 2009 to showcase food hygiene inspection results for food businesses across the Borough.

The Mayor of Castlereagh, Councillor Lawrence Walker welcomed the scheme, “Scores on the Doors will inform the public about the standards of hygiene found by the Council’s Environmental Health team during an unannounced inspection at food premises across the Borough. The public can log onto the Council’s website at anytime and see these results and ensure they are fully informed.”

A star system - where 5 stars is excellent and no stars is poor - is used to rate each food premises' hygiene standards and the rating is based on information gathered during routine food hygiene inspections carried out by Environmental Health Officers since October 2008. Ratings are determined using the risk scoring methods contained within the Food Standard Agency's (FSA) Food Law Code Of Practice and are subject to consistency review.

On Monday 30th November at 10.30am, businesses in the Borough who scored a 5 star rating will be formally awarded their Scores on the Doors certificate at an official ceremony at the Council Civic Centre. The Mayor of Castlereagh, Councillor Lawrence Walker, presented certificates.
