- 1984 - The Ulster Defence Regiment
- 1992 - The Ulster Special Constabulary Association
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Ulster Special Constabulary Association during a conferment ceremony held in Dundonald on 2 May 1992.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the service given to Northern Ireland by the Ulster Special Constabulary from 1920 – 1970.
- 1994 - The Regimental Association of the Ulster Defence Regiment
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon The Regimental Association of the Ulster Defence Regiment at a conferment ceremony held in Dundonald on 21 May 1994.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the service to the Borough and to Northern Ireland.
- 1995 - The Royal Irish Regiment
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Royal Irish Regiment at a conferment ceremony held in Dundonald on 20th May 1995.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the devotion to duty, gallantry and courage of the members of the Royal Irish Regiment as well as its service to Northern Ireland and to Castlereagh.
- 1996 - The Royal British Legion
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Royal British Legion during a conferment ceremony held at the Council Offices, Cregagh on 20 April 1996.
The honour was bestowed, recognising the tremendous work carried out by the Royal British Legion and the support it has given, both moral and financial, to ex-service men and present service men and their families since 1921, resolves to mark the Legions’ 75th Anniversary by conferring upon it the Freedom of the Borough.
- 1998 - 204 (North Irish) Field Hospital Royal Army Medical Corps (Volunteers)
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the 204 (NI) Field Hospital Royal Army Medical Corps (Volunteers) during a conferment ceremony held at Hydebank TA Centre on 28th June 1998.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the devotion to duty, gallantry and courage of its members for the last 100 years, as well as its service to Northern Ireland and to Castlereagh.
- 2000 - The Royal Ulster Constabulary GC
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Royal Ulster Constabulary GC at a conferment ceremony held at the Civic Offices on 30 September 2000.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of its service to the Borough and to Northern Ireland and in particular the dedication to duty of its members, their self-sacrifice, bravery and professionalism in protecting the citizens of Northern Ireland from acts of terrorism.
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon George Best during a conferment ceremony held in the Civic Offices on 3 April 2002.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of his exceptional sporting talent and his outstanding contribution to the game of soccer.
- 2003 – Alderman Peter D Robinson MP MLA
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon Alderman Peter D Robinson MP MLA during a conferment ceremony in Castlereagh on 9 June 2003.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of his long service to the people of Castlereagh.
- 2004 – Northern Ireland Prison Service
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Northern Ireland Prison Service during a conferment ceremony at the Civic Offices on 15 May 2004.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the organisation’s valuable service to the Borough of Castlereagh at Hydebank Wood, and to Northern Ireland in general.
- 2008 – Northern Ireland Housing Executive
The Freedom of the Borough of Castlereagh was conferred upon the Northern Ireland Housing Executive during a conferment ceremony in Castlereagh on 2 February 2008.
The honour was bestowed in recognition of the outstanding dedication and commitment shown to the people of Castlereagh over the years of the ' troubles', and in particular its major contribution and effort in supporting the many householders who suffered serious damage to their properties and had to be evacuated, following the IRA bombing of the Northern Ireland Forensic Science Laboratory. |
