CASTLEREAGH BOROUGH COUNCIL GOOD RELATIONS MISSION STATEMENT:
"Castlereagh Borough Council aims to build good relations amongst its citizens by means of the delivery of a Good Relations Programme which addresses local need. This will be affected through the active involvement of elected members, council officers, relevant agencies and local citizens to implement a programme that is underpinned by the principles of equity, diversity and interdependence."
Castlereagh Borough Council operates a variety of Good Relations Programmes with financial support from the community relations unit at a rate of 75% of approved expenditure. The aims of the programme are to develop cross community contact and cooperation, to promote greater understanding and respect for cultural traditions. Since 1991 Castlereagh Borough Council has delivered an extensive programme with local communities in order to promote good relations in a range of areas.
Castlereagh Borough Council demonstrates their commitment to good relations through their fulfilment of the Section 75 duty and their compliance with the government framework for good relation 'A Shared Future'. Within the Council's corporate strategy the promotion of good relations is a strategic aim - 'to promote good relations, equality of opportunity and fair treatment for all. . The Council will aim to work together with citizens, other agencies and business to build safe and strong community for everyone'. This places good relations at the core of Council business encouraging all areas of Council to develop actions dedicated to building positive relationships with people form different religious, political and racial backgrounds.
Good Relations Grant Aid:
The Good Relations grant fund is to support the development of local community relations and cultural diversity projects. It is open to community groups and organisations involved in reconciliation and cultural diversity. The aim of the fund is to promote good relations between people of different religious and political beliefs and different racial groups. The maximum award is up to £1,000.
