Financial Information

Rates Information

Castlereagh Borough Council has historically struck very low domestic rates. Next financial year, 2009/2010, Castlereagh rate payers will again be paying the lowest domestic rates in Northern Ireland.

2009/2010 District Rate

Castlereagh Borough Council has struck its District Rate for the Financial year 2009/2010 at:

0.1902p in the £ for the Domestic District Rate
(The lowest domestic rate in Northern Ireland)

This reflects a zero increase on the current Castlereagh rates.

How to calculate your domestic rates bill

Your rates bill is made up of two elements:

1. District Rate - Set by the Council, 0.001902p in the £ for 2009/2010
2. Regional Rate - Set by Government, 0.003608p in the £ for 2009/2010

This makes a total of 0.00551p in the £.

This figure is multiplied by the CV (Capital Value) of your domestic property. The CV of your property is shown on your current rates bill. So if your property has a CV of £180,000 your annual rates bill would be £180,000 x 0.00551 and the total payable is

£991.80

How to calculate your non-domestic rates bill

Your rates bill is made up of two elements:

1. District Rate - Set by the Council, 0.158224p in the £ for 2009/2010
2. Regional Rate - Set by Government, 0.298900p in the £ for 2009/2010

This makes a total of 0.457124p in the £.

This figure is multiplied by the NAV (Net Annual Value)shown on your rate bill. So if you have an NAV of £288,500 your annual rates bill would be £288,500 x 0.457124 = £131,880. Please see the pdf document below which contains details of the domestic rate for all 26 local authorities in the financial year 2009/2010.
