Car Removal

END-OF-LIFE VEHICLES

Under new legislation producers (vehicle manufacturers and importers) are responsible for the costs of ELV take-back and treatment. The last owner of a vehicle is now able to return their vehicle into collection systems free of charge. The last owner must also be issued with a Certificate of Destruction for their vehicle.

You can bring your vehicle to an Authorised Treatment Facility (ATF) where it will be disposed of to high environmental standards at no cost to you. The nearest ATF for Castlereagh residents is Clearway Disposal Limited, East Twin Road, Belfast Harbour Estate, BT3 9EN, Tel 028 9045 7556. You should contact Clearway before bringing your vehicle to them.

Alternatively, the Council can provide a chargeable collection service. You will be required to provide full details of the vehicle, including proof of ownership, and ensure the vehicle is accessible for collection. Further details can be obtained by contacting Technical & Environmental Services on 028 9049 4600.

Abandoned Vehicles

Reports of abandoned vehicles should be directed to your local PSNI Station, in the first instance, for investigation. Dependent upon the outcome of the investigation, the Police can request the Council to serve a notice on the vehicle. Upon expiry of the notice the vehicle will be removed by a licensed contractor and taken to an ATF for safe treatment and disposal. The Police can be contacted through the Police Exchange 028 9065 0222.
